Blog Reopens

After a long period of absence from the scene of blogging, I would to announce that I have finally gotten an internet connection at home here in Pulau Pinang. This blog updates would commence back as normal.

So I thought I'd start out talking about how life is now. Firstly, I'm staying at an apartment now; its about 15 to 20 minutes away from my work place. Food is within 5 minutes walking distance so I won't starve I think.

Its been a month now and I'm still trying to settle down with the living culture here. The hard things to cope with are the hokkien speaking hawkers, the traffic jams, and the complicated town roads. Have to learn hokkien I guess. But there's one thing I love more than anything else is the internet connection I have right now; 2Mbps all just for me and I'm only paying Rm60 per month.

Wondering why? If you are from Pinang then you would know but in case you are not from Pinang, I've subscribed my internet connection from PenangFON. I won't talk much more about it cause I don't wanna sound like I'm advertising for them so if you wanna find out more about it then just google the name.

There's a long story behind acquiring this internet connection. If you have the time then read on. It all started after about a week since I came here. I couldn't wait to get an internet connection so on the first second Friday that I was here, I went straight to a TM Point and subscribe myself a phone line and a streamyx combo package. There was some problem with the computer and teller told me to come collect the phone the next day, which was a Saturday. Fine. I went and collect it the next day.

The following Monday, the technician came and installed the phone line, which was already there. All I saw him did was come in, take the phone that TM Point gave me and plug it in the outlet, which was already there. Paid him RM30.

The next day came and I found out about PenangFON from my friend. When I heard about it, I was drowning in disbelief and felt so cheated by TM. And so I thought, fine, I already subscribe to Streamyx and I'll just have to live with it. But since there wasn't any call from TM about the streamyx connection, the next day I went to TM Point and inquired about it. What I found out was that the port in my area was full and they told me to wait a week.

A week came and no streamyx. Guess what I did? Yup, I went to cancel my phone line and streamyx. After that, I subscribe PenangFON and here we are now. I've gotten a bill from TM for the phone line subscription. Its amounted to RM118.37. Still thinking if I should pay it.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna stop here for now. Thanks for reading.

Hong Kong Trip

My family and I had gone off to Hong Kong for a vacation holiday and this was what we had for lunch. We took Malaysia Airlines so we had in-flight meals.

The flight was about 2 hours and I spent most of my time with the in-flight entertainment; everyone had a small LCD screen in front of their seats. You can play games, watch movie, view the flight information, listen to radio, watch drama and also listen to music.

After we arrived, we were taken straight to the hotel. This is the lobby of the hotel we stayed in. Well, the ceiling and the wall of the hotel lobby at least. Kinda fancy looking, don't you think? But you'll be surprise of how big their rooms are. Have a look at the rooms:

Yup, this is the room after we messed it up. It's not on purpose. All of us just forgot to take the photo of the room before it was messed up.
Don't ask about the rest of the room because this is the rest of room. Aside from the toilet, what you see here was what we got. This is, indeed, a very small room and I thought First World Hotel rooms were small.

What do we have in the room? Everything you can find in a hotel room, of course. There's a kettle for us to boil some water with or we could have some tea or coffee, which is placed on a small shelf above the kettle. What this? There's even a cabinet for you to hang your clothes with, and if you could see, just beneath that cabinet is a small little safe. There's even an LCD TV. What more can you ask for? Oh yeah, don't worry, we have our own toilet.

Even though the rooms are so small, they have their own toilets. No shared toilets or anything like that. This is the toilet after we messed it up again. Sorry, didn't took one before it was messed up also for this one. Everything you need in a hotel toilet is also here. There's towels, soap, a glass for the water you rinse your mouth with, shampoo, shower cap, mirror, and there's also a hair dryer too.

We went to Hong Kong on a tour package but day 1 was all free time so we went roaming around. Since it was during the period of the Beijing Olympics, there was decorations around when we went there and here's a picture of it.
It was dinner time so we went looking for food after that. We found a restaurant somewhere near by and this was the stuff we ate:

After the dinner, it was pretty much go back to the hotel and rest. So, that's it for now. This is the end of part 1. See ya.

I've also added a new gadget which is the update countdown timer; it will let you guys know when the next update would be. I'm going to try and be active in this blog. Therefore, there will be consistent updates starting from now.

Firstly, I had so many photos from all my travels so I didn't know which to write first. Hence, I will write on all of it for the next few scheduled posts. The updates will be about my life adventures for the past few months. Beginning from my visit to Hong Kong...

to my visit to this baby right here...

This is not a photo that was grab from the internet. It is an original photo which took during my visit to India. It is a little photoshopped though but it looks so much better after it is photoshopped.

Well, if you are interested to know about my travel adventures, stay tuned. I will tell you about it as much as I could. Thanks for visiting.

Misadventure at the Money Changer

As you all might know, I'm heading to India for a robotics competition called ROBOCON. Therefore, I needed go and change Indian Rupee for my trip. This is how the story goes:-

A couple of friends and I was going around the money changers near Jln Bunga Raya and there were a few of them so we went about them and seek the lowest rate. When we finally found one, we all change the money individually. I had to change for two of my friends also but something had gone horribly wrong. One of my friend gave me RM1800 and the other one gave me RM300 and for myself, I wanted to change RM300. For some reason, I thought I had to change RM1600+300+300. Maybe it was because of my other friends who had also changed RM1600. And so, I told the money changer I needed to change for RM2200 but the actual amount that I gave the money changer was in fact RM2400 and the money changer changed for me the amount of Indian Rupee equivalent to RM2200.

When I finally went to give my friend his Indian Rupee, I realize that I had a short of RM200. I was devastated. My friend said I should go back to ask for it and so today I went back to the Money Changer and told him what had happen. To my surprise, the money changer said he had an extra RM200 when he closed his account yesterday. He gave me back the money in Indian Rupee. I was so relief and happy. I did not believed my ears when I heard what he said. I thought he would have said that he could not have check yesterday money or maybe he would have told me to check my money before I had left. He is such an honest businessman.

That concludes my misadventure at the money changer. Thank you for reading.

The Picture

It's been so long since my last post and I'm so thankful for those who visits here even though I didn't update my blog. As I said before, I don't have an internet connection at home so it's not so convenient for me to blog. I'm using someone else's PC right now so I don't have my pictures with me. Therefore, I thought I'll just put up a text post and I'm gonna talk about my blog's picture. It's the biggest one you can find here so you won't miss it ^_^.

The picture is suppose to represent what this blog is all about and this blog is all about me. If you didn't know, I'm in the picture and I'm the only one with colour. The picture was from a Sabah trip a few years back. The other people in the picture are actually my friends that went with me.

So, how does the picture represents me? By the way, I photoshop-ed the picture myself. There's two main reason why I made the background black and white. First, the bright colour of myself will show that this blog is mainly about me. Second, the black and white background shows the way I feel about the world around me - confusing, unknown, still a lot yet to be discovered and I mostly certainly will not discover it all.

But most importantly is not really the reasons. It is the feeling you get from me when you just look at the picture. Anyway, I'm just blabbering I guess. Thanks for reading. Really appreciate it. Drop a shout out by the way.

Dataran Pahlawan Gig

The band had a performance last Saturday(21/6/2008) at Dataran Pahlawan. The stage was situated opposite Old Town Cafe. We perform for about an hour but it was actually close to 40 minutes because of some technical difficulties.

When we first arrive around 8.20pm, the drum set was not yet there. We were so nervous because of that. We couldn't perform most of the songs if there wasn't a drum set. Even the cables and the effectors was not provided. We didn't bring ours so we had to borrow from the previous band.

Finally, the drums came about 8.30pm. We had to wait for it to get ready before we can perform. We used a lot of time setting up since wasn't ready. Even the stool for the drummer wasn't provided. We had to use a plastic chair to improvise; really made us nervous.

Here's a picture of the band from the gig:

Introducing Vince the 2nd guitarist:

Victor the bassist:

Crash the drummer:

Sean the lead guitarist:

Finally, Edith the female vocalist and me, Mike the male vocalist:

Band Gig CANCELED!!!!

Very sad to say that the band performance that was gonna be held this Saturday and the next Saturday has been canceled by the organizer due to complaints from a certain cafe.

The cafe, which is very near to the stage of the intended performance, complains about the noise level of the band performances last Saturday. Hence forth, there will be no performances from our band or any other bands for that matter.

The band is currently not performing in the near future. If there is a next gig, it will be posted here. Thanks for reading.

After FYP Missions

Finally, I'm finish with FYP presentation. Therefore, I'm on a mission to update my blog.

First Mission: Find something to write on my blog.

So I went to one of my friend's blog and found a flash game. After I started playing the game, I've decided to play the game as far as possible and write about it on my blog.

Second Mission: Play the game. http://www.hk10.com/games/27/ajogame-.html

The game is base on graph theory. Although I cannot understand the Chinese characters on the website, I know how to play the game because of the description on my friend's blog, Chun Keat's Blog.

The objective of the game is to place the vertices or nodes in order that the edges or lines connecting the node do not intersect with each other. I've found out that the was fairly easy to play but it gets complicated. If you've gotten the hang of it, the complication is just more nodes; that's all. But the highest level I could reach is level 15. The game started crashing after that - not that I could not continue further. Since the game crash, I decide to stop. Here's a picture of level 15 solution:

Third Mission: Write my blog.

Which is what I'm doing right now. Try the game. I'll give it a definite 5.5 / 10. Not that high of a score because it gets boring really quickly. Thanks for reading. Leave some comments, please.
